Be a Scholar
Scholarship, academics and grades are the mainstays of college life, and the Greek community at WKU recognizes the importance of directing students into special scholarship programs. WKU requires a 2.5 high school GPA and a 2.25 college GPA to participate in formal recruitment. Each fraternity and sorority chapter also has a minimum grade requirement for joining and initiation.
Greek-letter organizations were founded on the principle of successful scholarship. The academic performance of each chapter is tabulated every semester to determine overall chapter rankings. The Greek average has been consistently higher than the undergraduate non-Greek average.
WKU's Greek community wants you to do well in school, and there are programs in place to help. Many chapters have study hours in the Academic Advising and Retention Center to assist you in time management and tutor programs to create an environment in which you can excel. Also, scholarships are available through individual chapters and national organizations for initiated members.
Academic Programs
Every spring semester, IFC and Panhellenic sponsor an Academic Recognition Banquet to honor fraternity and sorority member’s for their scholastic achievements. Also, once a year Greek Affairs recognizes the achievements of chapters with Chapter Achievement Awards during our annual convocation that concludes our Greek Week. Members are also eligible to join the Greek honor societies Order of Omega and Gamma Sigma Alpha.
